According to Reuters, Greek maritime security firm Marisco announced on Tuesday, September 1, that the supertanker *Cedar*, carrying Saudi crude oil under the Saudi flag, was struck by unknown projectiles at 19:52 GMT on Monday, approximately 16 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, Oman.

Ali Zareyi Douzdehresi, a political prisoner and one of the victims injured during the 2022 nationwide protests, who is currently held in Qezelhesar Prison in Karaj, has been sentenced to death by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges of "Mofsed-e-fel-Arz" (corruption on earth).

According to information received by HRANA, the death sentence against Mr. Zareyi Douzdehresi was issued on the grounds of "corruption on earth through extensive engagement in political activities, creating the appearance of artificial harm, producing false news, propaganda against the state, disturbing public security, and unauthorized entry and exit from the country." The sentence was communicated to him on August 22, 2026.

Mr. Zareyi Douzdehresi, who had previously been living in Germany, was arrested upon entering Iran on April 28, 2026, by agents of the Intelligence Directorate.

His case was handled during the preliminary investigation stage at Branch Three of the Investigative Court of Tehran's District 33 Prosecutor's Office, known as the Security Prosecutor's Office.
He was ultimately transferred to Qezelhesar Prison in Karaj on June 30 of the same year. He is currently held in Unit Three, Ward 37 of the prison.

Ali Zareyi Douzdehresi, approximately 27 years old and a resident of Tehran, lost the sight in one of his eyes after being struck by a pellet bullet during the 2022 nationwide protests. He has a prior history of arrest and judicial proceedings.

Their charges were announced as "moharebeh" (enmity against God), "complicity in moharebeh," "destruction of public property classified as moharebeh," "assembly and conspiracy," and "propaganda against the state."

This case was formed following the killing of "Abbas Kamrani," a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and a homeless citizen during the protests of January 8. However, the charge of murder was not included in the indictment issued against the defendants.

Reza Zanganeh, a 27-year-old young man from the village of Kalil-Abad in Malayer and a resident of Karaj, has been sentenced to death on charges of "Moharebeh" (enmity against God).

His case has now been sent to the Supreme Court for appeal proceedings, and if the sentence is upheld, this prisoner will face the risk of execution.

According to information received, Reza Zanganeh returned from Malayer to Karaj on April 2nd, and the following day, April 3rd, when he had opened his shop, agents raided his workplace and arrested him. A number of neighboring shopkeepers and business owners witnessed his arrest.

Zanganeh is a luxury and foreign car mechanic and is currently being held in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. He had a court-appointed lawyer from the beginning of the case, but his family also retained a private attorney during the judicial proceedings to follow up on the case.

This position has obstructed fresh efforts by Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan to revive negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, August 26, citing knowledgeable sources, that the Trump administration has communicated this stance to mediators on multiple occasions.

The initial agreement, brokered through Pakistan's mediation, sought the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the start of talks on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program and an end to the war. In return, a reduction in sanctions and Tehran's access to frozen assets had been envisioned.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Trump has now prioritized economic pressure on the Islamic Republic and is prepared to wait for the outcome of this policy to become clear. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly also stated that no negotiations with the Islamic Republic are underway or planned, and that the naval blockade and "economic expulsion operations" will continue.

This report came as Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir traveled to Tehran earlier this week for talks. Oman's foreign minister also held discussions with Islamic Republic officials to reach an understanding on passage routes through the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar's prime minister likewise met with Islamic Republic officials in Tehran on Thursday, August 26.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that disagreements over how to interpret the June agreement and the conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz have made it difficult to reach a framework for resuming negotiations. Meanwhile, Tehran insists on implementation of the previous agreement's terms, while Washington continues to pursue the path of economic pressure.

Iran's President's Executive Deputy has confirmed that the Islamic Republic government cannot import gasoline due to the United States naval blockade.

According to IRNA, Mohammad Jafar Qaempanah, on Wednesday evening, August 26, stated that changes to energy carrier prices — including gasoline and diesel — are necessary, explaining: "The distribution of gasoline is not fair and continuing on this path is impossible. Furthermore, domestic gasoline production is insufficient, and due to the U.S. naval blockade, we are unable to import gasoline."

The Iranian government official also said it remains unclear by how much or when these changes will take place.

In recent days, as Islamic Republic officials have increasingly spoken about the need to raise gasoline prices, various reports have emerged of some fuel stations in Tehran shutting down and long queues forming outside them.

According to the latest announced figures, daily gasoline production in the country stands at approximately 115 million liters, while consumption is around 129 million liters — meaning daily production falls short of consumption by roughly 14 million liters.
